What to Look for When Buying a Home

There are certain things that every homebuyer should have in mind during their search. Here are three of the most important.

Here are three things that you should be looking for when buying a home:

1. Make sure you’re within your budget. Find out what your budget is by talking with a lender and get pre-qualified. This will let you know if you’re ready to buy a home, and what kind of home you can actually afford.

2. Focus on functionality and think about your specific needs. After you’ve got your budget, figure out how many bedrooms you need, what area of town you’d like to be in, and more. Your agent should be able to help you with this.

Being near good schools is important, even if you don’t have any kids.

3. Think about resale potential. Unless you’re going to be in the house for the rest of your life, eventually you will sell it. When folks want me to help them list their home, there are some things I advise them to watch for, such as the home’s condition, any updates that may need to be made in the future, and being in a good school district. All of this is very important to your home’s resale value down the road. Privacy on the street and in the backyard are pluses for most buyers as well.
